Neighborhood Spotlight: The Woodlands

This month we wanted to highlight one of Houston’s most sought-after suburbs-- The Woodlands. Located just 28 miles north of Houston, it is a master-planned community, complete with award-winning schools, entertainment venues, culinary eateries, and beyond! And, true to its name, is characterized by its lush forests, nature preserves, and its high walkability.

NEIGHBORHOOD CULTURE

Spanning 28,800 acres, The Woodlands prides itself on offering the convenience of city living with the comforts of a suburb. It is divided into ten villages, each subdivided into neighborhoods, with each neighborhood comprising hike and bike trails, parks, golfing, and commercial centers. Villages include Alden Bridge, Cochran’s Crossing, College Park, Creekside Park, Grogan’s Mill, Indian Springs, Panther Creek, Research Forest, Sterling Ridge, and Town Center. Perhaps most notable is the city’s lush, natural surroundings. The George Mitchell Nature Preserve protects 12,000 acres of forest, which gives The Woodlands an unexpected, albeit welcome, feel from its surrounding areas.

In addition to being an exceptional residential community, The Woodland’s is home to the corporate campuses of Chevron Phillips Chemical, Huntsman Corporate, Woodforest National Bank, Baker Hughes, McDermott International, McKesson Corporation, plus many more! It is also a top medical hub with five major hospitals, providing highly-rated healthcare and wellness programs.

FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT

Live, work, and play in the Woodlands with its over 140 parks, 220 miles of hike and bike trails, public pools and art, and signature golf courses. The heart of the city is Hughes Landing. It is located along the lakefront and offers the perfect place to meetup with friends or family for a dinner along Restaurant Row or a waterfront stroll. Local eateries on Restaurant Row include Del Frisco’s Grille, Escalante’s Fine Tex-Mex and Tequila, Local Pour, and MACARON by Patisse. There is no shortage of shopping and retail options, either. Residents and visitors enjoy The Woodlands Mall or opt for outdoor shopping, dining, and salon and spa visits on Market Street

The Woodland’s plays host to a variety of local and national events throughout the year, including the IRONMAN North American Championship, The Woodlands Marathon and Triathlon, Insperity PGA Champions Tour Invitationals, and The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is a world-class concert and show venue that puts on everything from free classical art shows to concerts by world-renowned artists including Frank Cinatra, Britney Spears, Tom Petty & the Heartbreaks, and many, many more.

SCHOOLS AND HOUSING

Since its inception in 1974, education has been a top priority in The Woodlands. From exceptional preschools to senior educational programs, The Woodlands truly values lifelong learning. It is served by Conroe, Magnolia, and Tomball ISDs and is also home to acclaimed private schools and Lone Star College.

The Woodlands is mostly characterized by new builds that range in style from traditional to Mediterranean, and contemporary to ranch. Prices start in the 300ks and go up to the high one millions.
